Shooters

About the only thing better than good outdoor writing is good outdoor photography. I have several friends who actually make a living as outdoor photographers - shooters, I call them. They don't do weddings, portraits, class reunions. They shoot the outdoors and those things related to it. It is always great when one of them is recognized for his/her talents by those outside the outdoor industry. I also love it when they publish books about the different aspects of their vocations.

Both of the photographers below where asked this past summer to teach their peers photography at the Outdoor Writers Association of America annual conference. Pretty cool.

Jim Foster

My good friend Jim Foster, a former Texan who now lives and works most of the time in Idaho, was recently recognized for his work in a news story. Click on the link below and read about Jim and his new book about the birds of Texas.

Jim is a hunter and shooter and a no-nonsense kind of guy. He's a tremendous writer and also one helluva photographer. Not only does he know how to pull the trigger on great photos, he's also a tremendous resource as a teacher of photography.

Want to learn about outdoor photography in Mother Nature's own classroom? Give Jim a call and he can set that up for you. He has a website - www.jimfosteroutdoors.com - where you can learn more about him and the services he offers. You can email Jim at jimf06@gmail.com.

Colleen Miniuk-Sperry

Another good friend, Colleen Miniuk-Sperry,  recently published a book about photographing Arizona's wildflowers. I should add Colleen lives in Arizona.

Colleen is a former technology employee at one of the major firms and she takes an almost engineer-ish approach to her photos (combined with her obvious love for the outdoors). Very different from what I'm used to, but the results are fabulous.

You will enjoy Colleen's new book and her ability to teach you how, when and where to take photos of Arizona's wildflowers. Contact her at cms@cms-photo.com.
